The curriculum at Mary of Nazareth School is a challenging and rigorous implementation of the academic standards set forth by the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools Office*. Beginning in kindergarten and continuing through the eighth grade, the students receive instruction that is based in the Catholic faith. The faith is taught to the students through daily religion classes and implemented into the core academic areas of reading and language arts, math, science, and social studies. In addition to these foundational subjects, the students receive instruction in Spanish (two classes per week for grades K - 5 and three classes per week for grade 6 – 8), weekly art, music and computer classes, and twice weekly physical education classes.
Mary of Nazareth School has implemented small group instruction for reading and language arts in grades K – 5 and in math in grades 4 – 8. The smaller class size affords both the students and the teachers the opportunities to delve more deeply into a topic area, address student questions and needs, to challenge student thinking, and to optimize student learning.
